David Hardy
David Hardy, London-based artists painted a series of portrait entitled “The Faces project”. These are portraits of famous people, the list includes rock star Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Amy Winehouse, movie star Cameron Diaz, Emma Watson, and adult entertainment personality Hugh Hefner, and other famous persons.
Johann Gosselet
Choosing iron as his main material Johann Gosselet recycles old derelict objects into sculptures. The metal art revolves around the shape of animals or humans, combining them with iron mechanical objects the style looks like engineered art-pieces of half-organic half machine sculptures. “Aquastructure animée du mecapenOpisthOglyphes” for example is a sculpture resembling a snake that can be animated through strings that is in turn operated by turning a wheel and axle.
Josh Keyes
Josh Keyes cleverly merged the natural and the bizarre in his paintings to portray a dystopian world themed around animals and the environment. Depictions of animals are juxtaposed with man-made objects in what appear to be the decaying remnants of human civilization where the humans no longer exist. The almost photo-like realistic images and the unexpected contrast of these scenes invoke an eerie and surreal feeling, as if foretelling the tragic fate of human beings, a fate that might be very real indeed.
Nathan Sawaya
While most sculptors use marble, clay, or wood, Nathan Sawaya uses the popular plastic toy LEGO. Easy to see why we adults still love this toy, most of us played with LEGO when we were kids, you build little houses and little zoos with little animals and little people and then you tear it down and build something else, you can almost build anything with those tiny plastic bricks. Maybe that’s what makes Sawaya’s art fascinating, we all can relate to it and perhaps reminds us of the little kid we still have inside of us, even if you are an adult. Sawaya’s art has been featured in many exhibitions and museums and he himself had been invited to popular media shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with David Letterman, and Discovery Channel’s Mythbuster just to mention a few.
Indieguerillas
Indieguerillas are a husband and wife duo of visual artists mainly working with paintings and illustrations. Far from the hustle and bustle of the big cities, Indieguerillas are based in Sleman, a small town located at the foot of the volcanic Mount Merapi in Java. Not the kind of place you'd expect to find talented young artists with truly amazing artwork. They claim their art is fueled by heavy metal and gastronomical adventure. We were intrigued by this and we were certainly impressed. We interviewed them to find out a little more.
