The Treatment Rooms: Arte Urbano
This short documentary video shows how community art has uplifted the struggling community of Miravalle, a township in the outskirt of Mexico City. The art projects offer a healthy distraction to the disenfranchised youth from crime and delinquency, perhaps even promoting positive norms for the individuals within the community, such as celebrating the local culture, fostering creativity, and encouraging freedom of expression. But beyond all of that, some of these artworks are quite impressive too, especially the huge murals. It’s an example of where the art has benefitted the community and the community benefited the art.
